MEET Shea Maze
2022 Best in Community Showcase Award Winner & 2023 Featured Artist
Shea Maze is an emerging multidisciplinary artist, born, raised, and based in South Minneapolis. He is taught by his community, and is in constant collaboration with his environment. From the time he was born, Shea was surrounded by creative minds. Although now he’s thankful for that, there was a time when he found it discouraging. Not because of any lack of instruction or access to materials, but because seeing so many talented individuals never have the time, support system, or funding to feed their passion led him to see art as a dead end. Luckily, as an adult, a brief but formative period in the restaurant industry would help reignite his creativity. In the kitchen, Shea found a passion for balancing sensations different ingredients offer, in order to create a unique and memorable experience for the consumer. While he still throws down in the kitchen regularly, his ideology regarding cuisine has been adapted to feed his visual artistic process. Allegorically, Shea believes “some of the best meals are made when you think you don’t got nothin’ good to eat.”
