This bonsai duo is handcrafted from strands of high-quality copper wire that have been twisted together and shaped to form the roots, trunk, branches, and leaves. The wire is coated with a tarnish-resistant finish, allowing the wire to maintain its color over time. This piece features two bonsai trees with roots that merge with the cracks and knots within the driftwood base. This sculpture utilizes driftwood I collected along the Iowa River. The worn look of the driftwood complements the organic shape of the wire bonsai trees. The trees are attached to the base using an adhesive, and several of the roots are friction-fitted to the base. For this tree, I've chosen to keep the natural look and feel of the driftwood. The driftwood was washed with fresh water to remove sediment. It was then soaked in a bleach solution to disinfect the wood, rinsed again with fresh water, and left to air dry. Finally, the wood was lightly sanded to remove loose material.
