This oil painting was displayed in my International Baccalaureate exhibition, with the theme of fire, this past year. This piece was inspired by a reference photo taken of the California Fires of 2020 by Josh Edelson. Burning branches reach out like monstrous claws over a sign inviting people to “wear a mask, wash your hands, social distance, stay safe and come join us.” This piece shows the irony of government and leaders’ refusal to take action in the face of extinction. It represents the human tendency to ignore blazing, and often life threatening issues that we face, in attempt to maintain life as normal. Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, Gold Key.
