Artist: Heather Friedli

This gnarled and stately oak tree is one of the most important landmarks on the early part of the Appalachian Trail. With it's twisted branches, this tree marks the first border crossing from Georgia into North Carolina. "Bly Gap Oak Tree" is the first in my commemorative series "Hiking North with Spring, Appalachian Trail Thru-hike Memories", a celebration of my 10 year thru hike anniversary of the Appalachian Trail.
