I removed the bark from the bottom side of this piece exposing the spikes that make up the character that is referred to as eye burl. With the exception of taking a bit off an edge of the spikes which can be rather sharp. I left the bottom unfinished and natural. The top shows the wonderful grain of the eye burl in the creamy pale wood. Some hints of naturally occurring deep red can be seen in the top as well. Simply wipe as needed with a soft dry cloth, chemical cleaners should never be used in general care. Box Elder can fade overtime, I have used UV blocking finishes to help prevent and it is recommended to not display the piece in direct sunlight.
