Made from a crotch section, which is where two branches meet, of a Duluth area Red Maple I left this bowl thick and bulky. Often when I am working on my lathe I will stop the machine and look at the character that the piece displays. In this case I saw the resemblance of an Asian painted screen with two opposing forces separated by a valley, and that's where I stopped cutting, some deep bark inclusions and a few small cracks are visible in the piece After sanded to 3000 grit Danish oil was applied and then buffed and top coated with a museum quality Renaissance wax which is intended for preservation. Not recommended for food use. The smooth finish allows you to simply wipe as needed with a dry cloth, chemical cleaners should never be needed in general care.
